The geocoin craze has come to Maryland! Geocoins have become very popular over the last year or two with many geocachers. What originally started out as just a USA geocoin trackable on Geocaching.com has now blossomed into coins created for state & regional organizations, events, and even individual geocachers. Some geocoins have even been created as a tribute to certain aspects of the game. Although it didn’t start out that way, many are now trackable on Geocaching.com.
We here in Maryland have not been immune to the geocoin bug! Many of us have begun to collect geocoins, others find them more frequently in geocaches and pass them along. Last year, as most of you know, we debuted our first state geocoin.
Now that things are really rolling (pun intended!) and collections have been started, its a good time to get together and talk coins! We”ve put out an event for all those folks who might be interested in discussing geocoins. If your new to it or want to learn what its about, we’ll talk about everything from collecting to coin clubs to how to go about developing your own geocoin. If you’ve already been doing this a while, come on out and share your collection and experiences.
There are also bunches of geocaches around the local area to check out too.
So come out on Saturday, March 18th to Bear Creek in Callaway, MD and meet some of our local geocachers and talk coins!
