Ok, we've been planning a few caches that should be fun but before we make fools out of ourselves, I have a few questions.

1. In Charles county, it seems you do not need park permission. Correct?
2. You can still hide ammo cans in Charles county?
3. For parks in PG county and St. Mary's County, you must obtain permission and you can not use ammo cans.

I believe that's all... We've been busy while out caching to look for some good places to hide a cache.

Thanks in advance.

By looking at the current county permission guidelines all your assumptions are correct.

Few more questions while my permission is pending at a location. (I'm pretty sure it should go through with no problems)

1. It looks like I can build the cache pages before hand so I can launch them all at once. Correct?

2. How do I add pictures to the caches... such as the MDGPS, a funny picture for background or something to do with the cache theme? Is this done afterwards?

3. Do I need permission to use the MDGPS logo? Yes, these caches will all be kid friendly... seeing the kids are doing alot of the work and stuffing the caches with goodies :)

We have already checked ceche distances with GPS coordinates with 6 different GPS's... Magellin eXplorist GC, Garmin Oregon, Delorme Earthmate, an iPhone and 2 Android phones :) We let the kids use the phones...

I hope our first round of caches go well and with little problems.

Mrs Bocco posted a copy of a great series of posts about geocaching that 2Wheelin wrote for the NOvago forum.

If you go to Chapter 5, you will find a lot of useful information on how to go about creating a cache page.

As for the logo, the front page of the mdgps.org has a section called Link To Us that should help you with that part.

Thanks for all the help all. I have built all the pages in advance, faxed out the permission sheets and currently I'm waiting on park services to approve my cache. It's been 8 days but I'll give them to Friday before I start to worry. The horde is actually busy working on caches and puzzles once these go through. These are more of a 'test' run of caches.

Question,

It says that the park rangers should get back to you in 5 days on a cache approval. It's been 15... I want to contact them to find out what the status is but I don't want to anger anyone... what is the protocol?

With all of the Ranger cutbacks going on throughout the state they're most likely shorthanded. I'd probably wait a tad longer and then contact them.

The rangers sometimes forgets and you may have to ask them. We remember when we placed Quiggle was frognapped. It was a while but I called the day later and it was okay.

If its a charles county DNR. Its going to be awhile. I would wait until at least Thursday to contact them.

Thanks for the info! I guess I'm just antsy about this because we have a cache series to launch and permission is holding the whole thing back....

For the Prince George's County M-NCPPC, Ranger Chris Garrett is the park approver. I know he left the end of last week for vacation and I think he is due back the end of this week. You can call the office at 301-627-7755 to make sure they received your form. Generally Chris is very quick to respond.

I re-faxed the application and the park ranger left me a message today! Hopefully I can get this placed this weekend and launch the whole series before the picnic :) I'm soooo excited.

Does this mean you are not coming to the summer picnic this Saturday? And you mean the having them in before the Fall picnic. right?

I fully plan on being there on Saturday! If I can place the cache today, all I have to do is active the cache pages.

I get off work at 1pm daily so I'm able to do a lot of hiking in the afternoon. If all goes well, I'll have everything placed tomorrow!

I guess the big variable is how long it takes an admin to approve my cache pages...
