Due to the growth of CAM each year and the site difficulties experienced last year, we've turned to the cloud for a more robust solution of distributing the CAM cache data and it will not longer be posted directly to the MGS forums. On the morning of March 16th the two download links below will both contain the CAM cache data. They both contain some test files right now so that you can verify your access.

Like the last two years, in addition to the traditional code inside the CAM caches there will also be a QR code that can be scanned by the use of a smart-phone.

If you have no idea what a QR Code is or how to scan one then just note the code letter in each cache and ignore the QR Code, it's not needed to complete CAM and contains no information that isn't already available via other means.

Below is an example of a QR Code so you can test your phones ability to read it.

Not directly related to CAM but something I thought I'd mention for all those QR-aholics out there that just can't walk past a QR-Code without scanning it to see just what's encoded inside.

There's a rather recent hobby out there called Munzee, if it's something you find interesting, keep a look out during your CAM run as you just may find some along the way either currently existing or maybe new that may be deployed during the dry run

Just wanted to give a bit of a status update, the CAM dry run has been completed and final preparations are being made for opening day 3/16. I think picking a favorite CAM cache this year will be a challenge, a great set of locations for this years journey.

As a side note, special attention should always be paid to child waypoints and cache descriptions, especially this year, it will certainly make for a more enjoyable CAM experience along the way.

The CAM Pathtags have SOLD OUT! :nooo: You should see some of the 500 made begin showing up in the wild. We will be placing another order that will be due sometime around the picnic.

We have also been working with the guys over at Munzee so each CAM cache will have its own private Munzee worth 10 points, they will not appear on the public map. The Munzees will be at the posted cords for each cache, for a traditional it will be obvious but for a puzzle or multi a little looking may be required. :smt119

The Munzees are of course optional and just placed for a little extra fun for those that Munzee :-D

***REMEMBER THAT THESE PARKS ARE NOT OPEN UNTIL DAWN, SO PLEASE DO NOT ENTER AFTER HOURS, NO MATTER HOW TEMPTING***

Be safe, have a good time, and enjoy the state. Hope to see you at the event.

Welcome to the 2013 CACHE ACROSS MARYLAND!

Below you will find all of the information needed to complete CAM. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. You can post your questions in the CAM forums here on the site.

You will need:

1. PDF files of the ten (10) CAM caches, or if you go paperless, just the GPX file will suffice.

2. CAM Passport

4. BE SURE TO NOTE THE LETTER ON/IN EACH CAM CACHE! You can write this on your GeoPassport, in a notebook, etc. There is also a QR Code attached to each CAM cache containing the code letter, its use is of course optional. THIS LETTER IS VERY IMPORTANT!! About a week or so prior to the event, we will publish a decoder to use the letters you recorded that will determine the coordinates for the event.

CAM caches will not be published until the day of the event, Sunday, May 5th, so you CANNOT log them FOUND until then (even if you do not find all 10, you can still log the ones you actually found). You may use the appropriate thread in the CAM forums to temporarily log it. When the cache is live you can merely copy/paste your log. NO SPOILERS PLEASE. :shame: There will also be a photo gallery set up on the MGS website for you to upload photos.

Speaking of photos, this year we will be doing another CAM PHOTO CONTEST, with the winners to be judged at the event. See this thread for more info.

We also plan to have a vote for "Favorite CAM cache" so keep that in mind when you are seeking them. We tried to keep everything uniform and bring you to each area, so rather than doing "scenic" or "creative", we'll just lump it into one favorite, which can be for any reason!

Also, since the caches will not be listed until the event, DO NOT LEAVE TRAVEL BUGS in the caches. If you want to use your own TB/geocoin for mileage that's fine (you'll need to log it after 5/5) but with no way to keep track of TBs, the CAM caches aren't a good place to drop them until the caches are actually live.

AFTER you have completed CAM, send an email to CAM2013Completion@mdgps.org with the subject "CAM Completion" and containing your gc.com name, this information will be used to create the CAM Certificates and also determine how many will be attending the picnic.

The event will be Sunday, MAY 5th and will be potluck, please bring a dish to share. For those that have not attended an MGS event, there is always plenty of food so do not feel the need to feed a small army. At some point when it looks like you're finished with CAM, please post a note on the event page with what you intend to bring so we don't end up with too many of the same items.

PLEASE OBEY ALL PARK HOURS. The caches are NOT night accessible. The CAM planners realize this is a large undertaking but please budget your time wisely so you're not tempted to go in after dark. You risk being prosecuted or at the very least having your car locked in after hours.

Have fun, enjoy yourselves, enjoy the scenery of this beautiful state, enjoy the caches, enjoy the company of your family and friends, and we
hope to see you all on May 5th at ....... well you didn't think we'd give it away, did you? :defiant:

Just wanted to let everyone know that I pulled much of the HTML formatting out of the CAM GPX file as when I tested it with some older GPSs, it caused a crash. So for the sake of consistency and usability for everyone the text doesn't look so pretty when using the GPX. The PDF files are probably the best thing to use for the Multi and Puzzle.
