CAM 2013 - Southern Maryland
You may log caches for CAM here. No spoilers please! On 5/5 you will be able to log them on geocaching.com

Re: CAM 2013 - Southern Maryland
Up early(6am) and checked to see if the caches were available. After figuring out how to down load them, I got a text from Lori of Lori and Amy. Shortly thereafter, we were off on a quest for a FTF for the second year in a row. Lori was sure she knew where we were heading and she was right. We found parking and hit the trail just as the sun was beginning to come up (maybe 7am). While my GPS says that the cache is less than a k from the parking, it's as the crow flies and not how the trail winds. The GPS will actually go way up prior to heading back down and if done correctly, the cache isn't far off the very scenic trail. However, as usual, we did it the hard way and found the easy way after the find. Lori found the cache hide which was a fairly easy find though its location isn't all that impressive. If you haven't found the CAM 2004 cache, it's fairly close and there are other caches in the area, including along the trail. Great way to start the morning and CAM. TFTC
And we were home way before 8 so some people could get to work on time.

Kelliottwombat and Caching Dragonfly...We think we are first to find as we were the first to sign the log book after the approved signature of Johnny Cache. However there is another cacher who has logged on this website as first, we did not see a signature in the logbook. Over to you Johnny Cache to make the determination.

If you signed below my name that was the back of the logbook. The other finders most likely signed the front if they did arrive before you.Kelliottwombat wrote:Kelliottwombat and Caching Dragonfly...We think we are first to find as we were the first to sign the log book after the approved signature of Johnny Cache. We signed in the front of the book next to the FTF. I looked at the back of the book first too. It was one of those backwards mornings.Kelliottwombat wrote:Kelliottwombat and Caching Dragonfly...We think we are first to find as we were the first to sign the log book after the approved signature of Johnny Cache. 3/16 found this afternoon. What a nice warm day it turned out to be. We thought it was going to be a cold rainy day but the farther south we drove the warmer and sunnier it got. I always enjoy coming down to St. Mary's. We drove down with Phoenixfyre76 and CacheSking and after finding the CAM we walked over the 2004 CAM and the other nearby cache so they could find them.

Re: CAM 2013 - Southern Maryland
Sometimes it takes forever to get to Southern MD. Today was no excepts as there was an accident on Rt 5. But, it was fun after we got there. We had found the 2004 cache here last year and got lost on the trails but this year, we knew what to do. Nice easy find and a pleasant walk on the trails. TFTC!

Three down, seven to go! The day went without a hitch. We even got lucky with the weather.
This is such a beautiful spot! I grew up in MD, but had never come down here until now. So THANKS to the organizers and CO's!

Grabbed this one with yellowrose70, rach246 and regalturbo1987. We met up with them at the Leonardtown MML and then headed down here. We enjoyed this nice little hike and then ran ino the mortards at parking. 1 of 3 CAM caches today.

CAM #5 3/17
We always enjoy visiting St. Mary's City. The history of the place is so fascinating, and the archeological work they are doing is amazing. We ran into Janji, Sir Curly, and Corfmania on the trail, and then we grouped together for a fun nearby cache. This was a wonderful location for a CAM cache!

CAM 1 3/16/2013
The weather forecast was horrible. There was so much rain projected that they canceled the activity we were obligated to attend Sat morning. Wonderful, that meant we got to start our CAM journey earlier than we had planned. This year we planned to do CAM differently than last year. Last year we discovered CAM late in the period and rushed through to get them completed. This year we vowed to take our time and savor each cache. To that end we decided to take advantage of our children's spring break to give us a big solid block of time to explore Maryland and complete this challenge.
Since our day was suddenly free we decided to start our adventure by heading down to Souther Maryland and tackling this one first. As it seems normal in weather forecast around here, the forecast was wrong. It was an amazing day. Our children were very excited about the picture contest and took pictures of everything. My youngest (2y) has decided to collect rocks. She picks them up and puts them in the backpack. It is hard enough to carry supplies, rocks and 2 year old are heavy. It was a nice hike. We had a bit of trouble at Button, Button, Who's Got the Button? and logged a DNF. The directions to this one were spot on. We found the landmark and struck out to find GZ. I let each of our children find this one. They were each excited. Each were thrilled by the swag. We recorded the code (probably a dozen different pictures and several different clouds just to ensure we didn't lose it) and capped the munzee. This is a great container.
We then decided to tackle the original 2004 CAM cache. We did a little more bushwacking then necessary. After a search we made the find. This find and the clue gave us new hope on Button. We hiked back to button and after ignoring our GPS we made the find. As we reentered the trail we ran into The9Searchers.
After finding this one we stopped and explored St Mary's. The rain started just as we were getting into our car. We hope the9searchers picnic didn't get too wet. We then visited the the navel air museum. Another great attraction that we have been wanting to visit since we saw it last year on our CAM dash. It rained most of the way to PG CAM.
This completes 1 of 10 CAM 2013

CAM 2013 find #3 on Day #1 of CAM - Saturday, March 16. We had a bit of rain coming here, and it seemed like it might get worse when we got out of the car, but it all cleared up and we had a wonderful hike with some gorgeous views. Of the three caches we found here, I think we all got a chance to spot one first. A great caching day with Snerdwing and Ari54321!
We hiked over 8 miles today with 55 equivalent flights of stairs!

For any caching done around area covered by Patuxent Naval Air Station, be aware they are testing GPS interference technology as noted in the following bulletin for airmen (pilots):
FLIGHT ADVISORY - GPS Interference Testing March 21, 2013 – April 19, 2013, Patuxent River, MD.
Notice Number: NOTC4637
FLIGHT ADVISORY
GPS Interference Testing

That should make CAM 2013 a bit more interesting, eh?

CAM #4
Having completed the two CAM caches on the Eastern Shore we left Pocomoke very early this morning on a two-day trip to get the Southern and Northern Maryland CAM's and any bonus caches (and munzees).
Driving to and finding the first few caches we were surprised to see large flakes of "mostly cloudy" falling from the sky.
During a previous CAM we had taken a picture of Mrs. R&H in front of the base of a huge uprooted tree by the trail.
This time it had a small tree growing out of the top so we took another picture to compare the two!
Thanks for the cache and a scenic 1.59 mile walk in the snow!
We just read the Advisory on GPS Interference Testing. We had NO PROBLEMS with our Nuvi or our two 60CSx's while we were caching in the area!

Re: CAM 2013 - Southern Maryland
3/22/13 I met nomaland at 5:20AM and we took the flight out of Hagerstown in the little red car. This was our fourth and final target for the day after nabbing Ocean City, Eastern Shore and Annapolis. Surprisingly, this was quite a haul from Annapolis. We used the alternative parking coordinates which brought us closer to the cache. We ran in to MCCrew as they were heading out. We enjoyed the nice trails and wildlife along the way – grabbing a couple of other caches, including the 2004 Cam Cache. We made this grab at 4:35PM. So far, this is a top pick for me but I do enjoy the mountains – waiting to hit those closest to home later. TNLPT Thanks for bringing us to this spot!
