CAM - Newbie Question

Post by OhMelli »

Okay... feelin' a little DUMB here. I FOUND the CAM downloads... but... Can I get them into my GPS? I mean WITH all the information? Or do I have to manually put them in, and then make copies of all those pages to take with me? (I'm thinking it might be a GOOD thing I didn't get to start today...) (and where is the *scratching head* smilie?)  :brick:

What type of GPS and what type of computer do you use? Any program? There is a gpx file that can be used to load GPS.

I am sure their are other ways but I use GSAK and if you do you just have to save the GPX file to
your computer and then open it using GSAK, I open to database 2013 cam, and from their download to
your GPS.
No matter how you use it you first need to save it to your computer.

You can also save the gpx file to your computer and copy and paste that file onto your handheld gps (not sure if this method works with a standard car gps though). Most of the time, I use the GSAK method that trainbug mentioned, but there are other ways.

Okay... I don't have GSAK... but my GPS is a Magellan GC. I'm thinking that if I just save them to my computer I CAN move them to the Magellan files. Thanks to you both!!! I'm off to TRY it! :D

Wow, you learn something new everyday! I have always just hand entered the coords into my GPSr and kinda run by the seats of my pants during CAM.  I usually end up printing out the info too. 8O Maybe having all of the info in the GPSr will make it easier .... we'll see though .... I can still find ways to go the wrong way and have to do a u-turn in the middle of the road ....
Just do it!

I use GSAK with my Garmin so I can not comment on any other manufacture. You can review the owners manual for your GPS. You can also attach your device to your computer and see if there is a GPX folder. You can try copying and pasting the file in that folder.

Okay... Time for ANOTHER dummy CAM question!

Shouldn't the pachyderm cache in Quiet Waters be published? I thought all the bonus caches were published. But I went to log that one today and it's not there... HELP!
