Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
I spent this opening day of CAM 2017 caching with Dixiegurl Suzanne, Subfamous and wizardofmd69. We signed the logs with some form of Team CAM to conserve space. I had a great day with 32 finds and no DNFs. Four of the finds were FTFs and one of those was a CAM 2017 cache. We finished the day with finding 3 of the 11 CAM 2017 caches.
I mentioned before we went to this one that it will be a "Zoo" at this park today because of the popularity and the nice weather. Yep, I was right and wizard made a note of stating that this place was a "Zoo" no less than a kuzillion times afterwards. [;)] We used the recommended parking, but failed to get on the paved trail when we should have and bushwhacked the entire distance to GZ. We found the cache easily and of course took the easy way out. TNLN TFTC

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
Saturday was a great day starting with the kickoff in Easton. But I had a commitment for a Kayak Navigation class in Chestertown, and it started at 0900. No way could I stay to have my GPS loaded and get to class, so I only ate and ran, so to speak. And I wouldn't have any time to cache anyway, so Sunday would be my first CAM day. Since Centennial park is walking distance from home, If I really wanted a long walk, I decided to make this my first.
Then Sunday hardly got light enough to see, and turned cold and damp. What the heck, go out and find a cache anyway.
I parked at the easiest parking I could find - not one of the listed ones, at the trail entrance on Centennial Lane, right at the head of the lake, and walked the entire circuit of the lake. I spotted a few Pokeymon Go'ers and one cacher on my loop, after I'd found the cache.
Where was everyone else? Letting a bit of dampness stop caching? I hope not!

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
I had a couple of free hours this afternoon, and decided to pick off some “low hanging fruit”, e.g. a couple of CAM hides within 30 minutes of home. Living not too far away, I’ve been to this park many times. There used to be a lot of caches around the lake, but sadly, most of them have been archived. On the bright side, What’s Up? at Centennial Lake has withstood the test of time, and remains active. Time permitting, It’s well worth doing while you’re here. In spite of the damp, chilly weather, there were a lot of walkers and joggers out enjoying the trail. I parked at the west parking area as suggested, and made the quick find here after a short walk. Afterward, I continued on the trail and completed a lap around the lake. I didn’t see any other geocachers during my walk, but as I was leaving, I noticed a car with a tell-tale travel bug decal parked near mine. It was missing the code, so I’m not sure who it was. Thanks for the quick CAM smiley 15 minutes from home, and the excuse to revisit this great park! Find #3037.

Would we have time for a record 5th CAM cache on the first day? Shrinerr wasn't so sure but I was confident. We parked at the West parking area and were greeted with a nice downhill trail to start with. Once there, we just had to be patient behind all of the walkers on the trails near dusk but made the find in a nice area. I was wishing I had a net to see what kind of frogs and tadpoles were in the pond next to GZ. I could hear some spring peepers but bet there are several others there too. Thanks for hiding this cache for us.

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
3/25/17 Arrived here late in the day and it was packed. This is definitely a well used park! Found a nice spot to have some lunch before setting off to find the cache. Did not find the paved trail until halfway into the hike, but found a gas line trail that took us most of the way there until we ran into the paved path. Stopped to listen to all the spring peepers in the nearby pond, and then grabbed the cache. Nice hike in a busy park!

3/25/17 CAM find #3. This was a nice traditional hide. We parked at the recommended parking and walked to the cache. Pyro spotted the "trail" at the gas line and we left the paved path at just the right time. Thanks for the nice traditional hide! SL TFTC

3/25/2017 ...TFTC & find #4 for today , I believe we are the last ones here today/tonight:-D ..we arrived later then our "plan" for the day and we took our time to wander about the grounds for bit as some were happy to see (pokestops and wild creatures about ) but we soon set fourth for the attended target and accomplished the find. SLTN Left swag . It was getting dark/late when we made our way back to the car and the park would soon be locking the gate for the night ...

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
Found March 26th at 4:30 PM, CAM #4
We'd spent Friday and Saturday night at Deep Creek Lake and decided instead of doing more caching in Western Maryland where the weather had turned foggy and cold, we'd make a strategic strike into central Maryland to knock out the wherigo and maybe one other CAM cache. The Wherigo went well so we still had plenty of daylight to get this one.
We can see how this might be a very busy park, but thankfully the slightly cooler weather kept the muggles to a minimum, although there were still plenty. We checked out all the beaver works including the big beaver lodge. Didn't see the beavers but hopefully they are still there. We also saw some Eastern Bluebirds.
Made our way to the cache which was in a nicely secluded spot. Didn't even have to use my GPSr as the trails led us right to the cache. The CO picked a nice spot in this surprisingly large and busy park. Thank you for placing this CAM cache! TFTC.

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
3/27/2017 Deep Concern and Portlywalker had a full weekend out West and then at the National Park Seminaryament followed by our first Wherigo. Going through new computer setup issues so spent foggy morning at home. We agreed to do Centennial lake and parked at the recommend parking lot. The walk was fine with older couples and mostly Young ladies actively walking / jogging / running. Directions excellent. No sense of excessive muggers threat near the sight. It was a reminder that GPS distances and actual steps won't compare since my pedometer showed about 5000 steps when done. Thanks for a lovely cache with fishing crows, phoebies, blue heron, and other birds abounding.

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
This was stop #2 on our CAM road-trip. We briefly considered joining the 5K race that was assembling near parking, but realized we'd never make it to the rest of the stops if we had.
The lake was already bustling with walkers. We enjoyed the unseasonably warm walk to GZ, made the find, and were off to the next adventure. Neat area. Thanks!

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
On the first day of CAM, Mrs. Cajun55 was in Southern MD. So, she headed over to the Charles County CAM cache. Meanwhile, I went for Centennial Park. I saw no cachers, and actually thought I might be the FTF. No such luck. As I was arriving to the point where we leave the main trail. Two people popped up out of the woods.
This was actually the hardest find of any CAM cache I've done. I kept circling GZ, but couldn't find the right path. After a long time, I finally spotted the proper spot.
Thanks for the challenge.

gvt1985, MD Crab, and mdfroglover decided to team up for CAM this year. After starting opening day with the southern Maryland sweep of Friendship Farm and Biscoe Grey Heritage, we had to stop at Centennial Park, a mere 1.7 miles from home . Congratulations to Soccertoa and MDsearcher(s) for their FTF. A great start to CAM. It is always fun to meet other cachers.

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
This was our fourth find on the first day of CAM. After getting the two in Western Maryland and then Perry Point, we headed down to this one. It was H-O-T by this point in the day, but in my excitement to get out for the cache I neglected to take off the sweatshirt I'd been wearing since we left home at 6 AM. I was sweating profusely for this walk. We made our way to the final trailhead, where we encountered a couple other geocachers. We walked in together and they made the find. We all signed in and talked for a few minutes before making the trek back. I finally got smart and removed my sweatshirt during this walk back. We then decided to hit up the National Park Seminary for our last stop of Day 1.

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
TFTC! This was my fourth of five CAM caches today. A very nice park with nice walking trail along the lake. I noticed some kayak's or canoes at a boathouse across the lake, that would be a fun way to spend a weekend afternoon in the summer Easy walk with a lot of people walking their dogs, jogging, and walking on the paved trail. This was another I did very quickly. I had been on the CAM trail 7.5 hours and I had one more stop.

Found 4/1/17 #3 of CAM 2017
Found with soccerlexie after grabbing Welcome to Sykesville whereigo. No issue with technology here.
A nice walk down the trail to the cache. Held back as we crept up on another group near GZ. When they finished, we found GZ, signed the logbook and moved on as there appeared to be another crew across the creek waiting their turn at it.
Split up from soccerlexie who wanted to grab more caches in the area. We sprinted back to the truck so we could get our son to his soccer game in time.

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
Date Found: 4/2/2017, CAM Find: 7/11
Zoop Cacher and I grabbed this cache on this beautiful Sunday morning, when there weren't that many parking spaces left thanks to the softball games going on. We first made the mistake of following our GPS unit to try to find the trail from where we parked in the parking lot, until I found myself between softball fields and realized we would have to bushwhack through a ton of forest of daunting terrain to get to the likely location of the trail. A little geosense, and we finally found the trailhead.
This path was busy with runners and walkers and families and fisherman. We saw a lot of baby turtles sunning themselves on floating logs and exposed rocks, woodpeckers carving away at trees, geese fighting over nesting space, and tiny tadpoles along the water's edge. The cherry blossoms on the other side of the lake were in full bloom, and the view was serene.
At some point we saw and passed by a dirt trail, and realized that had we stayed on that dirt trail it would have been a more even and less steep terrain. The paved trail looped around and joined up with the dirt trail again, which now turned into a grassy trail on the other side of the paved path. We saw that it was the general direction of the compass, so we said "why not?" At first we walked through a few sticker bushes and I thought "this doesn't look like a geotrail used quite a bit and recently" but it soon turned into a well defined dirt trail that took us right to GZ. Had we stayed on that paved path we would have had to bush whack up a hill, so I was glad we took the scenic route.
At GZ, it took a bit of searching until Zoop cacher finally made the find. As we signed the log a woodpecker was serenading us, and we sat quietly for just a moment and enjoyed the solitude of the woods away from the crowded paved path.
Thank you for bringing us to this park. It is not far from home, and yet I had never been here or knew that it existed. This is why I love geocaching
Happy CAM!

Re: CAM 2017 Logs — Centennial Park
Parked in the north parking lot, which for some reason I always think of as the backside of Centennial Park. Debated just grabbing this one day on my way from work to one of my daughter’s (AbbaDabba, who is now pretty much too cool to geocache with me) tennis matches at Centennial High School, but since I ended up heading for home sooner than I expected, I decided to come get it.
3rd CAM cache of the day for me. 3 down, 8 to go!

CAM #8 04/02
Such a busy park, especially on this beautiful Spring day! All the parking places seemed to be taken, so we ended up in line in a lot waiting for a spot to clear. It didn't take too long before one opened up and it was only .39 from the cache, so, feeling lucky, we took the spot. Oops, that was.39 across the lake from parking. In for a penny, in for a pound, we ended up walking around the whole lake. What a great little hike with the early Spring blossoms and the Canada geese arguing in the water. We really enjoyed the lovely scenery and the opportunity to stretch our legs after the long drive.
Thanks for placing this very nice CAM Cache.
