I missed the first MGS plate and would like my name added to the list to request one with this new release.

We contacted the MVA again, and they've agreed to only require the list of 25 names if we change the logo. They're prepared to go ahead with an immediate order of 50 mew plates providing we keep the old logo. Since we've been stalled at 13 names for about a month, and some members have been waiting for a plate since last year, we've decided to move forward with the order on Monday, March 6th. If 12 more people sign up before Monday the 6th, we'll use the new logo. Otherwise, we'll stick with the old one.

Reply to this thread if you're interested in your own set of MGS specialty tags for your geomobile. And remember, you DO NOT have to wait until your current registration expires. Any remaining time in your current registration will transfer over to your new MGS plates. You will be issued new stickers when you collect your new plates from the Glen Burnie MVA.

I would like to be added to the tag list. I'd prefer the new round logo but will take what comes. ThunderbirdMM. I doubt they'll do motorcycle plates but if they would I would then take 2 plates.

I was interested in the new logo plate, so if that is not going to be available, I don't want to be obliged to purchase the old (current) design. If I understand correctly where we are, I think that means you can remove me from the list of those interested in purchasing MGS plates. Sigh. Phos4s

Since more than two-thirds of cachers responding (I know, only 16 voiced their opinions, so the numbers are small!) to the survey about which MGS plate to order, preferred the NEW logo, it seems to me we shouldn't order 50 plates of the OLD style at this time. It appears we'd be doing that to end the long wait for just a few cachers (perhaps only ONE cacher has been waiting that long to secure a plate?). How many cachers among those signed up for the next run of plates really had their hearts set on the new design? Shouldn't we know that before ordering the old type? Is there a way to bring this issue to the attention of all Maryland cachers more effectively than we're able to through MGS alone? Can we ask Groundspeak to place for a short time some sort of pop-up announcement on the screen every time someone logs in and searches for a Maryland cache? It seems to me we risk discovering that only five people will be happy if they're able to secure the OLD style; possibly the eleven of us who voted for the new style, however, could be just the first wave of purchasers of plates with the new design. So maybe instead of putting through an order today, we ought to try to spread the word through various means about the opportunity to order one type or the other, and allow more time for cachers to add their names to the list?

I'm late, but I'd like one as well.

I have the old tag, but would be interested in the new one if it's still available.

Phos4s has a point. From our point of view, the nature of the logo is fine in either case, but the problem with the original run of plates is that the logo is way too small once printed on the plate. One notices that this is the case with many specialty plates; unless the vehicle is parked and you walk right up to it, you can't tell what the heck the thing says. In any case, to clarify, Simon is up for one whichever logo you end up ordering

Phos' broader point as to how to get the word out is pertinent as well. While many of us digital immigrants gravitate to the forums and this website, I suspect we are in the minority and becoming more so. Later generations are using Twitface, or Snapgram, or Instachat or some such. If you really want to get the word out, get a trackable tattoo of it and get a photo posted in Google images and on Pinterest. You'll get 2-5 responses a day for years.

I reached the same conclusion on Monday when I remembered the reason I suggested the change in the first place:
Alzarius wrote:The green ‘Maryland Bootprints’ logo looks great on the MGS banner, but it's a bit difficult to read at such a small size. We propose switching to the ‘Round Hiker’ logo to get some Maryland flag action on the plate (we Marylanders love our flag!)
Fortunately I was able to intercept the re-order of the old logo plates in time. We will be moving forward with plans to order the NEW logo. Spread the word!

Just to clarify: The MVA is not willing to reprint existing numbers on new plates. If you already own MGS plates (0–100) and you purchase a set of "new logo" plates, you'll be assigned a new number (101–150), and you’ll be expected to return your old plates.

Ok, if we're committing to the NEW design for the MGS plates, I'd like to return my name to the list. One set please. I hope we don't have to wait too long to order. What say we all start appending a blurb to our Found It logs, asking our fellow cachers to consider buying MGS plates? And, just a point of clarification: if 25 people want the OLD plates, the MVA would run 50 of those, too? So members could keep BOTH types going? Phos4s

I've been meaning to get MGS plates, but I've been wondering if the plates can be transferred from an old vehicle to a new one? For example, if I trade a car in, can I somehow use the old car plates for a new car?
I've was able to transfer my plates from a 1999 ford escort wagon to my ford escape. And it was fine. Just tell them they are specialty tags when you go and you should be good to go.

You can transfer plates at anytime. I have Baltimore Ravens and have had the same plates on multiple vehicles.

The last time I looked MGS098 was still available but the form had been mailed out around the time of the APL Symposium. I am not sure if this cacher wanted the old plate or cared about the new plate but Tascouter might know (and could ask) what they want to do. So there might be 1 more old set available.
