What are your 2013 Caching Goals?

Post by TheWeatherWarrior »

Seems like a natural thing to go ahead and post a thread for this year (2013) after the last thread for 2012 is being revisited to see if folks matched their goals.

2012 thread:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7409&p=113541

For myself, my goal for 2013 will be to return to caching, give GS and the whole hobby a fresh new outlook. And I would like to increase my find count by 100% (280 caches) and do it with almost exclusively regular and large caches.

1. Finish the days cached on calendar (we just have this Friday left)
2. Finish the new MML
3. Finish CAM
4. Place our 100th cache (currently sitting at 99)

With buying a house in hopefully March or April and a baby in May we're going to keep the list short this year.

Good post, and a good question.

That said, my goal is to continue geocaching...at all. Given some recent changes coming soon, that may or may not be...challenging.
-remember when QotM used to be a thing?

1. Finish the 2012 MML trail
2. Hide our first cache
3. Add a couple of new states to our finds list - so far we just have MD and PA
4. Get another FTF
5. Figure out how to solve the OYR series in MD
6. Get our 100th and 200th find milestones
7. Retire from work and spend lots more time geocaching (probably not going to happen but it's worth a try -lol)

1) I have 6 more D/Ts to get. I'd like to get a few this year, although I'm not setting myself a goal of getting them ALL. (*)

2) The only type of caches I have not yet placed on Geocaching.com, that are still allowed, are a Letterbox and an Earthcache. Thus I'd like to put out at least one of each.

3) I'd like to host at least one event this year, maybe for ice cream again.

(*) As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm keeping my goals light, as I applied to graduate school, so if accepted, that comes first (including all the prep work that I'm already starting).

My goal this year is "Give back to the geocaching community."

My main avenues of doing this are:
- Helping to organize and hide caches for geotrails (FSC, WGD)
- Helping to organize events (Whose Your Valentine? Event, Wicomico Geocache Bash, SURFER Events, FSC Celebration)
- Help educate community about geocaching (Georgetown Library, Geocaching 101 for WGD, etc)
- Offer support to new geocachers that I come in contact with
- Take the time to hide a multitude of caches that I have thought about, created containers for, or just planned.

Yes, I still plan to cache......MML, CAM,etc.
I'd also like to do the Hatfield-McCoy's The Hog Trial along with the smiley face near Waynesboro.

I definitely enjoyed reading everyone's goals for the upcoming year.

Was thinking about this one for a while..

1. Try and do CAM and have a blast along the way.
2. Find our 2,000th cache
3. Work on the PUC series and do as many as possible.
4. Do at least 5 climbing gear required caches (going to do Chuck's Wall and PUC 13 this summer) Please message if interested in joining up!! The more the merrier
5. Have some amazing times geocaching with Old friends and meeting new ones!!!

We've been a bit dormant so far in 2013 as far as caching goes so I hadn't really thought about goals for this year. This was a good opportunity to think this through.

1 - (sort of cheating here) Host our first Event cache. (we did this last night so we can check that one off the list!)
2 - Participate in and complete our first CAM.
3 - Continue to build and place cool caches. We got our goal of 10 last year which doesn't seem like much but a few of the caches took months to conceptualize and build. Another 10 this year would be good... but time permitting I hope that number is higher.
4 - Check off at least another two states.
5 - Finish the Montgomery County ADC challenge. I don't think we have much left, just need to do it.

Looks like PUC 13 is a goal for many cachers this year! Lets get a big group and knock it out.

Attend Wicomico Geobash
Get a few more other state caches
Reach 1000 Finds (Currently at 400)
Placing a memorial geotrail for a friend who passed last yr.
Make new caching friends!

Always nice to see what other folks are focusing on in the upcoming year. For me, I want to:

1. Finish, publish, & maintain about couple dozen new caches, including three new series that I've got loosely planned.

2. Save gas, bike more. Continue to use caching as a way to get/stay fit.

3. Find 100 puzzles in a row.

4. Do at least one that truly transcends geocaching, whereby a fun, rewarding life experience happens to end with a container and a smiley. PUC #13 and Gadgets at Sleepy Creek come to mind.

5. Meet new people and cache in groups more often.

6. Enjoy shooting for those goals, but moreover, enjoy not being overly burdened by goals. Cache in whatever mode, with whatever determination or lack thereof, that I feel like on that particular day.

I just completed one of my goals for this year - which was to add more states to my geo-map! (or collect more souvenirs... whatever!) In the last two weeks I added NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, and LA!!! Whew! Of course... I still wouldn't mind adding more... later in the year!

My other major goal is to complete CAM this year! I'm really looking forward to it! It will be my first and I'm excited to see what awesome places the hiders have found for me! I don't want to do it "really quickly" though... I want to take my time and maybe pick up some prior year CAMs as well!

And another goal will be happening in the fairly near future... and that will be finding my 1000th cache! I'm over 840 right now... so not much longer! :-D

And my last goal is to FIND that PERFECT spot for a cache I've had ready to go for months now... but just can't seem to find "that spot". It's driving me NUTS! And the sad thing is, I saw all kinds of spots for it ... down in Florida!

2012 was a great caching year for me (go figure, first full year of caching) including 999 finds, a year-long streak, Star Spangled Banner and Captain John Smith Geotrails.

For 2013, I have some big plans. In order of probability:

Place another Christmas series
100 caches in a day
MML 2013
CAM 2013
MD Delorme
DE Delorme
VT Delorme
Jasmer
Fizzy
NJ Delorme

It is going to be a great year.

Really neat goals. I especially like seeing the newbies set goals as that is a fun way to stay active. It is easy to have big goals, sometimes good to just do simple goals (like all Montgomery County caches inside the beltway, or all caches within the city limits of XYZville).
coupleocachers wrote:4. Place our 100th cache (currently sitting at 99)
I know you'll aren't light on your cache placements, but I almost expected to see a higher hide count.
nighthawk700 wrote:3) I'd like to host at least one event this year, maybe for ice cream again.
If you plan one around Gaithersburg...highly suggest Bruster's on Rt. 355 north of Travis Rd. (it is near the Greenway Trail too.
hostanut wrote:- Help educate community about geocaching (Georgetown Library, Geocaching 101 for WGD, etc)

These are two great goals. Even despite all my BS, when it came to new cachers and talking about geocaching, it was always with high regards, allowing others to enjoy the game first, then form their own opinions later. If you haven't already, check out the Meetup.com site that has a DC area geocaching group. You can organize a meet-up type thing their. I did one about a year and a half ago. It was fun and had a high number of newer caching folks enter the game.

If there even a chance, I might try this. Do we need our own gear? I don't own any. Certainly won't be able to do any of this in Florida (unless climbing palm trees count)
Corfmania wrote:Grab a cache over 10,000 feet.
What is sad, is I could have easily done this. But I skipped caching the many times I was in Colorado like five times :brick: Any particular place in mind. I can highly recommend Loveland Pass (if the cache is still nearby).
