October 2013 "Caching Kids" Spotlight - rhiannonr

Post by Calvertcachers »

It is a delight to introduce Rhiannon in our October “Caching Kids” spotlight. Rhiannon is a true sweetheart and you will see her caching with her Mom, eissak (Kassie). Rhiannon, I would love to see virtuals brought back too!
Say hello to Rhiannon!

First Name: Rhiannon
Geo name: rhiannonr
School grade: 2nd

1. What is your geo-name or do you share a geo-name with your family?

My geoname is rhiannonr. I started geocaching when I was six and have always had my own account.

2. What is your favorite thing about geocaching?
I like that geocaching takes me to new places.

3. Do you tell your friends about geocaching? If so, what do they think?
Yes. They think that it sounds fun even though they don't completely understand what it is.

4. Have you ever taken your friends geocaching with you?
Yes. They liked the excitement after we found the geocache and were surprised to see something hidden in places they go often.

5. What types of caches do you like to find?
I normally find traditional geocaches. I enjoy regular sized containers because they usually have toys and trackables inside.

6. Of all the caches you have found, do you have a favorite?
My favorite geocache was the second one I found (GC1BJ29). I liked it because at the end of the hike, there was a cool turtle container staring at us!

7. Have you hidden or helped hide a geocache?
I co-own a few geocaches with my mom (eissak) in Cheverly. One is near the metro station and the other is near a historical plaque along a trail in the woods.

8. Do you like going for long hikes or adventurous types of caches?
I like simple and quick caches but I do also enjoy hiking to geocaches. Some caches in the woods you can hear birds singing. If we are hiking near a lake, Uncle Taco (jeffreader22) and I can take a break to catch some fish while on the way to the cache.

9. What has been your most adventurous or fun cache find?
After this past CAM picnic, we attempted a few nearby caches. After a hike up a hill, we heard a bunch of drums. As we got closer, we saw a bunch of people with bongo drums playing right next to a little waterfall. We didn't end up finding the cache but it was a nice walk and cool seeing the little waterfall while enjoying the sounds of the water and drums.

10. What is your favorite type of swag to find in a cache?
If a cache has necklaces or marbles, I usually trade for them. I also like to find trackables in caches.

11. What type of GPS do you use?
I usually use my mom's iPhone to lead us to the cache.

12. If you could add a new feature or technology to geocaching, what would it be?
Bring back virtuals!!

13. Do you like going to geocaching events?
Yes. I like talking to other people about geocaching.

14. If so, what was your favorite geo-event and what made it so much fun?
I like DudleyGrunt's (usually) monthly events at Qdoba's because I get to talk to different people every time. I also really enjoyed the CAM picnic this year because there were a lot of kids there for me to play with.

15. What type of games do you like at geo-events?
At the CAM picnic this year, I enjoyed the icebreaker activity.

16. Do you participate in other activities or sports?
I am an orange belt enrolled in TKA karate and I will be a Brownie Girl Scout this year.

17. Outside of school, what other types of hobbies do you enjoy?
I like playing with friends in the park. I like playing Minecraft with friends on iPads.

18. What suggestions do you have for cache hides, hiders, events, or event games?
It would be cool if more kids attended events. Maybe there could be games for kids to play.

19. Is there anything else you would like to share?
I think it is really cool to be interviewed. Thanks!!!

20. What is your favorite subject in school?
I like art because I get to draw whatever I want and make things. I also like reading.

21. What would you like to be when you grow up or study in college?
I want to be artist when I grow up. I like painting and drawing. When I am in college, I want to study art.

22. If you could go geocaching anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would like to go geocaching in the Philippines. My mom's family is from there. I went there once before we knew about geocaching. Last we checked, there were not many caches in Visayas. Hopefully by the next time we are there, there will be some for us to find.

It's refreshing to see geocaching through the eyes of a child. I particularly enjoy caching with youngsters and regularly get to cache with my grandson Journey (almost 7, as he will tell you). If caching ever becomes dullsville same old....go caching with a young one. And Rhiannon, you give a terrific interview. I will share yours with Journey. Thank You.

Thanks for telling us about you and your geocaching, rhiannonnr. We also saw the people playing the drums by the waterfall. That was really cool. I like the idea of stopping to go fishing while hiking to a cache. That sounds like fun. I hope we see you at the next event we go to.
