The 2014 CAM pathtags were ordered and we received notice that they have been minted. We are currently working with the folks at Geocoin Club to get these on their storefront page so we can start offering them for sale.

We ordered 500, and they are selling them in bags of 20 for $20 plus shipping. Get them while you can.

The CAM tags sold out in under 2 hours. 500 tags (25 bags) sold out fast.

So we have reached out to Geocoin Club to order 200 (10 bags) more.

Despite Mother Nature's attempts, the 10 2014 CAM caches have been placed, the dry runs have been completed, the cache pages have been submitted and approved by SirCrab. I want to thank all the hiders with their help with CAM. This winter has not been kind to placing geocaches in the scenic locations of Maryland. We have some great locations again this year.

Just a reminder which I will again say next week, please respect the hours of the parks. Almost all of the parks are sunup to sundown, but a couple of parks that contains CAM caches this year open at a specific time instead of sunup, which is after sunrise. Those times are listed on the CAM pages, please respect them.

I hope everyone is excited as I am about CAM this year.

Now back to figuring out what to do with the jpeg on my laptop of a satellite image of Maryland with 10 shaded shapes covering parts of the state. :D

As was done last year, we will be setting up two download locations that will contain all the CAM information that is needed when CAM goes live at 6am on March 22nd. One of the download locations has been set up and contains the Teaser Map. Make sure you can access the directory of files.

Weather update:

Every CAM cache had snow drop on it overnight with some places getting close to 9"

However,

The temperatures are going up for the rest of the week and most of the snow should be gone. The forecast for a Central MD CAM is:

Saturday
62 degrees
30% chance of rain

Look for the 15 bonus caches that will be published on the morning of March 22nd. The bonus caches are located at 5 of the CAM 2014 sites. A bookmark list has been created and the link will be available on the CAM 2014 kick off message Saturday morning.

***REMEMBER THAT THESE PARKS ARE NOT OPEN UNTIL DAWN, SO PLEASE DO NOT ENTER AFTER HOURS, NO MATTER HOW TEMPTING***

Be safe, have a good time, and enjoy the state. Hope to see you at the event.

Welcome to the 2014 CACHE ACROSS MARYLAND!

Below you will find all of the information needed to complete CAM. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. You can post your questions in the CAM forums here on the site.

In the download locations, you will find:

1. PDF files of the ten (10) CAM caches

2. The GPX file of the 10 CAM caches

3. CAM Passport

4. The Overview Map of the 10 CAM caches

BE SURE TO NOTE THE LETTER ON/IN EACH CAM CACHE! You can write this on your CAM Passport, in a notebook, etc. There is also a QR Code attached to each CAM cache containing the code letter, its use is of course optional. THIS LETTER IS VERY IMPORTANT!! About a week or so prior to the event, we will publish a decoder to use the letters you recorded that will determine the coordinates for the event.

CAM caches will not be published until the day of the event, Saturday, May 3rd, so you CANNOT log them FOUND until then (even if you do not find all 10, you can still log the ones you actually found). You may use the appropriate thread in the CAM forums to temporarily log it. When the cache is live, you can merely copy/paste your log. NO SPOILERS PLEASE. :shame: There will also be a photo gallery set up on the MGS website for you to upload photos.

Speaking of photos, this year we will be doing another CAM PHOTO CONTEST, with the winners to be judged at the event. See this thread for more info.

There are 15 bonus caches being released this morning in conjunction with CAM. Here is a bookmark list: List of Bonus Caches. If these caches have not already been published this morning, they will be published shortly. Make sure these caches are loaded into your GPS'r.

We also plan to have a vote for "Favorite CAM cache" so keep that in mind when you are seeking them. We tried to keep everything uniform and bring you to each area, so rather than doing "scenic" or "creative", we'll just lump it into one favorite, which can be for any reason!

Also, since the caches will not be listed until the event, DO NOT LEAVE TRAVEL BUGS in the caches. If you want to use your own TB/geocoin for mileage that's fine (you'll need to log it after May 3rd) but with no way to keep track of TBs, the CAM caches aren't a good place to drop them until the caches are actually live.

AFTER you have completed CAM, send an email to CAM2014Completion@mdgps.org with the subject "CAM Completion" and containing your gc.com name, this information will be used to create the CAM Certificates and also determine how many will be attending the picnic. If you don't put "CAM Completion" in the title, there is a chance that your email will be overlooked.

The event will be Saturday, MAY 3rd and will be potluck, please bring a dish to share. For those that have not attended an MGS event, there is always plenty of food so do not feel the need to feed a small army. At some point when it looks like you're finished with CAM, please post a note on the event page with what you intend to bring so we don't end up with too many of the same items.

PLEASE OBEY ALL PARK HOURS. The caches are NOT night accessible. The CAM planners realize this is a large undertaking but please budget your time wisely so you're not tempted to go in after dark. You risk being prosecuted or at the very least having your car locked in after hours. A couple of the parks open at a specific time and not at sunrise. Please respect those hours.

With all the snow we have had this winter, there is a possibility that there may be snow on the trails which could increase the terrain rating by 1/1.5 points. Even if the snow has melted, with all the precipitation we have received this winter, expect many of the trails to be very muddy. Expect the worse, hope for the best, and be careful on the trails.

Have fun, enjoy yourselves, enjoy the scenery of this beautiful state, enjoy the caches, enjoy the company of your family and friends, and we hope to see you all on May 3rd.

The Decoder will be released some time in the evening on April 25th. A geochecker will be placed on the CAM 2014 Picnic page listing also, so you can check the coordinates you get.
