Hart-Miller Island trips - April and May

We have 3 trips going to Hart-Miller Island coming up. The dates are Friday April 26, Tuesday April 30, and Friday May 3. You MUST be on the list to attend. There is a strict limit of 20 people for each trip. There are still a few spaces available. As of now, there are 3, 4, and 6 spaces respectively. Please contact me (emilyjen) if you wish to be added.

For those who are signed up and going, here is some info:

Departure point: 2024 Riverview Road, Essex, MD. Drive through the open metal gate and park in the area near the dock. There is plenty of parking. Arrive by 9:30 sharp. Don't let stopping for caches on the way in make you late! LOL

There is a port-a-potty at the parking area. You will get (and wear) life vests here. The boat ride takes about 15 minutes.

Here are a few things to remember:
• Your group will depart the MES Land Base promptly at the designated time. Plan to arrive 15 mins before the boat is scheduled to leave. See the attached directions and plan accordingly for construction zones.
• All posted signs and verbal notices must be obeyed.
• Alcohol and pets are prohibited.
• The group must stay together at all times.
• Participants will be required to board a boat and/or climb steps.
• Closed-toed shoes with appropriate soles such as sneakers or hiking shoes/boots are required.
• High visibility vests (provided) must be worn at all times while onsite and outside of the vehicle.
• All participants are required to wear a life jacket while on the boat (provided).
• Most groups should prepare for at least ½ mile hike on a gravel road. Please dress for the weather. It is significantly cooler on the water than inland.
• We run rain-or-shine! However, in the event of severe weather we may need to cancel the tour, in which case we will contact you as soon as a decision has been made.
• Bring a water bottle. We have a water cooler on-site for refills.
• If your group is having lunch on the island, have them pack a bagged lunch. Refrigeration is not provided, but you are welcome to bring coolers.
• Do NOT bring more than 20 participants total! This includes chaperones for student trips. The boat is held to a 20-passenger limit per safety regulations.
• Suggested items: bug spray, sun block, rain gear, and camera.

The island has two Earthcaches as well as two traditional caches. The tour is excellent. If you are a bird-watcher, you will love this.

An event on the island has been scheduled for each trip. PLEASE post a "will attend" so we can more easily communication about any last minute changes.
