I order some stuff from Groundspeak last week and received a free Expedia.com trackable tag with my order. If you track a trackable with one of these tags, you can get a $50 off your next hotel stay coupon code from Expedia.com. I found a good bug to attach it to so I'll be sending my bug around soon.
Special icon with itImage. Check out my Operation Lifesaver Expedia Trackable Tag page. I think the page says promotion goes until June 2011. So, I suspect the tags are limited time only. Good time to order yourself something from Groundspeak for Christmas.

I got one of these with my order this past week. I'm gonna use the tag for my vegas trip in May :)

I haven't read the guidelines lately, but I thought there was something in there about not associating advertising with a cache... Hmmm

I think there is something in the guidelines about that. It is confusing though because Groundspeak just adds them into your order for free. I got one as well when I got my TB dog tags so I could use the number in my new tattoo. I guess Groundspeak is breaking their own rules lol.

Technically, the advertisement isn't with the cache, but the traveler. Either way, it was a free tag, and $50 off next time I go to a hotel. I'll probably use is as an excuse to take my oldest son skiing in Colorado this winter!

If you think about it, here are some trackable items that are also advertising:

Geocoin Club
Eat, Stay, Play trackable coin
Geoswag Geocoin club

While the coin clubs are not as much of an advertisement as my E,S,P coin, but they are all advertising in a way.

Just to be clear, my snarky post was not meant to attack anyone at mdgps!!!

I just like that when a rule is made it applies to everyone, not everyone else.

I know mjb. You were sort of attacking Groundspeak, not MGS. I understand where you're coming from and it seems as if they treat trackables much differently than caches when it comes to advertising. I suspect that Groundspeak is making some money off of the promotion. I'm a capitalist and I think that's a good thing! No offense taken. :-)

Must be just some packages that get it, or a dollar threshold. I ordered some stickers and a hitch cover, didn't get the travel tag. :-( Ah well.
