MGS CITO

Post by cooley1103 »

Update

We were trying to hold our annual CITO at Jane's Island State Park as part of their park clean-up day on September 20th. However, after a discussion with one of their rangers it does not look good for a MGS event.

Situation:
The clean-up will be along their approx. 8 miles of beach. The downfall is they do not have a means to transport us from the mainland to the island where the beach is located. Members would have to provide their own transportation (pontoon boat, kayak, canoe, etc). He said they do not have any work to be done on the mainland to merit an event there.

Do you know of a good park that could use a little TLC?

We would need a facility with a picnic area so that we could get together and enjoy some lunch after some clean-up work.

Looking at late October/Early November time frame.

Send me a PM/email if you have any suggestions

Every Fall there is a "coastal clean-up" at Ft. Smallwood Park in Pasadena MD. It is a beautiful park right on the water where a lot of people go to fish. Unfortunately, the fishermen are not as environmentally conscious as you would think and as the place needs a lot of TLC. They do have at least one large pavilion. There is also a good play area for kids.

"Tree of Broken Heart" cache ( N 39° 09.938 W 076° 28.809 - GC49YYD) is located there.

Downs Park is nearby and also on the water. They also have the Coastal Clean-up event every fall but I have not been to that one. There are about 4-5 caches in that park.
