New MGS Geocoin Design Contest
We have gotten enough input where there seems to be interest in an MGS Geocoin. We will begin the process by having a contest for the design for the new geocoin. Design submissions will run until July 17th. Please submit your design to this thread here. Once all the designs have been submitted, we will have a contest to vote on the best design for the coin. Looking forward to seeing all the great designs MGS members will come up with.

Re: New MGS Geocoin Design Contest
Giving this post a bump. To mint a new MGS Geocoin, we would have to have a design first. One more week to submit a design for the contest.

Re: New MGS Geocoin Design Contest
I'm still working on the design/colors. I have a feeling I won't be done until just before the deadline!

This is a tongue-in-cheek take on our state sport.

Re: New MGS Geocoin Design Contest
I'm no artist, but here's a design with the state seal as geocachers. Someone with more talent could add the year to the banner, or move the GPS to be more obvious, or completely change the design to something much better!

Re: New MGS Geocoin Design Contest
Okay, here we go ~
Basic outline
Front (pretend the pencil marks are nice shiny silver lines)
"MD2015" is just an example of where the tracking code would be placed
Pathtag is an example of the area where pathtags can be placed and removed
Back (pretend the pencil marks are nice shiny silver lines)
About the design ~
I wanted to design a Geocoin that wasn't the typical circle shape, so figured the iconic MD blue crab would work well if I could make it look less spiky (for minting) and less creepy (to look at). I came up with a cute crab with smoother edges so hopefully it will mint well. I wasn't sure whether it should say "Maryland Geocaching Society" or "Maryland Geocaching Society 2015."
The MD flag is another signature visual of the state, so I had to include that in the back of the design. I initially wanted the pencil lines on the front and back to be a gold color, but I decided to go with silver otherwise the gold lines would get lost in the gold parts of the flag.
Finally, MGS has a growing collection of pathtags, so I thought it would be nice to have an indented spot to put in or take out pathtags if someone wants to. And it looks like the crab is triumphantly holding up a pathtag! I hope this doesn't make the design too big to be a Geocoin.
I was hoping to have a more symmetrical and nicely colored design to present to you all, but unfortunately, I haven't had as much time as I wanted to perfect the design, so all I have right now is a hand-drawn design with some edits in Photoshop. Hopefully this at least gets the idea across until I can do more!

Lots of original ideas here!
I'm working on a design too. Hopefully I'll have it ready to post on Friday.

Re: New MGS Geocoin Design Contest
I don't know about the die charges needed for a custom shape and cut-out like that but I did want to say this is a nice idea. Thanks for sharing!LestISmiteThee wrote:Okay, here we go ~

Here's a fairly sloppy edit - turns out Signal can't be on a non-Groundspeak coin.

Dang about Signal...
Change to what I said yesterday: my design isn't quite coming together and I won't be posting a design for this contest.

Another MS Paint exclusive
Other possible captions:
1. At least he went doing what he loved.
2. This place needs a CITO.
3. And that is why I'm a phone cacher.
