summer-is-upon-us-and-geocaching-is-in-the-air

Summer is here and there are lots of caches to be found including 2 big event caches. One is a Mega event Geowoodstock 8 in Washington State on July 3rd not far from Groundspeak headquarters and the other is a local event the MGS Summer picnic right here in Md. at Rocks State Park on August 14th. This cacher will be at both so I hope to see you at one.

At the the summer picnic we will be handing out our annual MGS awards so get your nominations in. There will also be a silent auction to benefit the MGS. Lots of items such as geocoins, creative hide containers and more donated by our members will be up for grabs. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of nice stuff to be had so be ready.

the-star-spangled-banner-geotrail-will-launch-saturday-february-27

Come on a journey to remember and commemorate the dramatic chain of events, people and places that led to the birth of our National Anthem. The story of the Anthem was shaped by events in the Chesapeake region during the War of 1812. From early 1813 until early 1815, the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding shores were the center of fierce struggles between the British and the Americans. From the burning of the White House to the Battle for Baltimore and ‘the rockets red glare,’ it’s all here for the geocaching community to enjoy in the Chesapeake region, an area encompassed by the Chesapeake Bay, coastal Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The Star-Spangled Banner (SSB) geotrail will have over 30 caches within Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. A trackable geocoin will be awarded to the first 400 geocachers, while supplies last, for locating at least 20 SSB caches. Click into the forums to read all the details.

gps-adventures-maze-exhibit-comes-to-maryland

As you walk through woods with your GPS in hand, have you ever wondered about the technology – its history, current uses and future possibilities?  Visitors to the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit opening this weekend at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore will have the opportunity to learn that and much more.

The GPS Adventures Maze is a traveling educational exhibit that was developed to teach people of all ages about navigation, GPS technology, and geocaching.  It simulates geocaching by leading visitors through a 2500 sq.ft. maze filled with interactive science experiences.  It is a unique caching experience with it’s own unique icon.

We invite everyone to join us at the Maryland Science Center on Saturday, February 20, 2010 10am – 1 pm for the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit opening event.  Be among the first to see the exhibition and meet members of Groundspeak, Trimble Navigation, and exhibit creator Minotaur Mazes.

The GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit will run from February 20 through April 18, 2010. For more information, please click on the links below.
