Here we are… It’s the final few months of the year. Time to get ready for the final MGS Event of the year.
Please join us on Saturday, December 8th from 12:00PM to 4:00PM at the Arbutus Community Association Town Hall in Arbutus, MD for the MGS Holiday Swap/Potluck. It will feature a potluck lunch followed by a unique style gift exchange, all details can be found on the event page. Please come out and help spread some holiday cheer MGS style. See you there!
Fall is here and with it cooler temperatures, changing leaves and the annual MGS Fall Picnic & Camp Out 2012. This year the fall picnic will once again be held at Widmeyer Park in Hancock, MD. Hancock, MD has been a part of the MML Geotrail since it’s inception.
Hosts this year will include Snurt, WVKiwi, SpikeP and others. A full slate of events are also planned around the MGS Fall Picnic itself. Watch the MGS Event Calendar and Forums for upcoming details. Hope to see everyone in Hancock, MD.

Come join the Maryland Geocaching Society in an effort to give back a little to the environment and parks in which we enjoy our hobby of geocaching. The 2012 MGS CITO Event at Greenbelt National Park in Green Belt, Maryland. The MGS has reserved the D Loop Camp Site for the night before the CITO for all those that wish to camp.
We will be doing a park clean-up followed by a potluck lunch in one of the park pavilions generously donated to the MGS for the day.
We’ll have a few raffle items available and also for the first time in the park, new geocaches! Please note that this is a National Park and that previously caches have been unable to be placed. Thanks go to the park management for allowing us to place permanent caches in the park. Additional information can also be found in the MGS Forums I hope to see everyone at the CITO!
One month now until the MGS Summer Picnic 2012. The picnic will be Saturday August 4th 2012 at 10 o’clock, RAIN or SHINE! We’ll be meeting in the McKeldin area of Patapsco Valley State Park for fun and food.
The Annual MGS Awards will be presented, and we’ll be hosting a large Silent Auction! If you would like to donate any items for the auction to help support the MGS and its mission, please contact the MGS PR Officer Spikep (Mike) at [email protected] The MGS does not collect any dues or fees for the events it hosts and as such depends on the generous donations of it’s members to help defray the costs of pavilions, hall rentals…etc. Please do consider donating to help out. Geocoins, cache containers, private cache tours or anything related to geocaching or the outdoors would be accepted to help out.
The MGS Awards are also being awarded. Please do take a moment or two to send in your nominations for 2012. More information can be found in the forums.

Those who are looking for something to do this weekend may want to make their way to Baltimore, MD to help celebrate the Bicentennial of the War Of 1812.
Star-Spangled Sailabration, June 13-19, is an international parade of more than 40 tall ships and naval vessels. These ships sail into Baltimore for the national launch of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner. Star-Spangled Sailabration will feature free tours of the ships, waterside festivities, an airshow featuring the Blue Angels, and the world-premiere of “Overture for 2012,” composed by Philip Glass.
Other activities will include an air show, a symphony concert and public ship tours. The MGS will have a table set up in the Inner Harbor to introduce those who are interested to geocaching. Please feel free to come on down and join us. You may also want to spend some time finding SSB caches to claim your coin if you haven’t already.
