It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Mike Vore passed yesterday. He was one of our old timers that I have known for many years and he will be missed in the caching community. He was spotlighted on this site in the Summer of 2012 and it is a good read. What sticks out to me from the interview is what he had to say near the end and it reads as follows:
15. What do you like about geocaching? What keeps you going?
Getting outdoors and the adventure. Almost the entire planet has been explored and it takes megabucks or more to do any earth-shattering, newsworthy exploration now — really out of the reach of the common man. But caching gives us all the thrill of exploring places each of us has never been to and finding places we never knew existed.
I will always remember his big hat and the fact that he liked to talk about caching and kayaking. If you have any stories about him please post them for us all to enjoy. I have many.
Rest in peace Mike.

Re: TheWoodenRadio
Very early in my caching adventures I was unemployed so Always Lost 00 and I set out to do CAM during the week. I do not remember which cache it was but there were drying up mud puddles full of tadpoles. They were going to perish. So she and I began scooping them out and putting them into the stream. Then this guy walked down the trail toward us and it was TheWoodenRadio. He helped us in saving the tadpoles (or feeding the fish in the stream, at least they had a chance) and talked our ears off about caching. We began a long friendship that day and I will miss seeing him.

I will remember Mike for a very long time. He and I biked often and we cached together along with my wife Barb...MrsB. We had fun walking 5 miles over to Whole Foods at the Mall in Columbia as we met at the back end of Wilde Lake in Columbia.
