Hi Ya'll!

I'm poppiseed (my mom calls me "Allie" when I've not emptied the dishwasher. or anytime.) I've lurked for awhile, but I've seen all the awesome stuff you all do, and I'm excited to get more involved. I currently live in DC with my husband, Jon, who comes with me on my adventures 90% of the time, but refuses to get his own account. so we are a bit of a team. I love caching in Maryland, especially when i get nano-sick from looking for finds in my own area.

hope to run into more of ya'll soon!

Welcome!

I think we were huddled under a bunch of umbrellas with you at MCBC 11 "Moving up". If so, your husband seemed pretty into it. I held off on getting an account for a few months before the travel bug bit me...

yup! that's us! He loves doing puzzles, so when i heard about the WVTim caches, and showed him a few youtube videos, he was game. Unfortunately, most of the caches where we live are micros or LPCs, which he could pass on. I love collecting smilies, so i'll go for anything. :-)

I think our next project might be the Maryland Star, I had never heard of that series before this weekend. Puzzles for him, smilies for me! So many different ways of playing, thats one of my favorite parts of this game. and hopefully we'll CAM next year.

I'm new. I have the basic free iPhone app. It's only good for basic caches. Im trying to decide if it's worth paying the $9.99 for the premium app or should I just pay for the membership for the year?

Hi all!

Since I already enjoy hiking out to mountain tops and using a HAM radio for a program called SOTA (sotawatch.org), I thought I might as well get into geocaching too. I haven't started yet, but I notice that there are a lot of places to go near me.

Looking forward to meeting others as time goes on...

@ Dragon480 -

Welcome! Instead of paying $9.99 for Groundspeak's premium app, urge you to consider Geosphere, which is more robust, has greater functionality, and only costs $7.99. Many MGS members use it, the learning curve may be a bit steeper, but in the end, you will have a better app that is more flexible and can easily import cache files from a variety of sources.

Mor info here: http://www.gbhometech.com/Geosphere/Home.html

Hello!! I have been caching since about 2006 when I lived in Colorado. I now live in Silver Spring. I took a geocaching hiatus for a few years, but have gotten back into geocaching full swing. I am really sad that I missed Geowoodstock when it was SOOO close to home, but look forward to going to some other events in the state.

I learned about the MGS from some really cute pathtags that I found in a cache. I am glad to have joined this group, and I really look forward to chatting with you all!!!

Welcome, look forward to meeting you at the Fall Picnic! It's a bit of a hike, but you may want to consider attending the Geocaching Symposium hosted by APLCachers (their geocaching club) at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel Maryland on Saturday, November 14th. There'll be lots of great info there for new cachers, and MGS will have a presence as well. More details can be found here: http://coord.info/GC62CD6

Hey y'all! I'm Dave, I live down around the Boonsboro area. I've been caching since 2008 but had a big slump for a few years until Geowoodstock since it was only 5 minutes from my house. Went out to LPYF's CITO yesterday in Hagerstown and everytime Ive logged one of his caches I've seen a link to the MD Geocaching Society and I figured it was time to check it out so here I am! :smt006

Welcome Dave. I'm glad LPYF is good for something  I see you have quite a few caches under your belt and have even hidden a handful. You can always find up and coming caching events on the front page and you will see the countdown for CAM (14w 4d 9h 29m 11s). Hope to see you at an event.

Well, as I was telling him on Saturday I would like to attend more... It's just the fact that most are either week nights or early Saturday mornings. I work a hybrid shift at work which is half second and half third (4p-3a most days, sometimes later) which makes it hard to attend events; like the 530a breakfast events on Saturday mornings haha. He had mentioned my late night FTF's and this is the reason. So with that said, we need more night caches please! :)

Good Morning, Just joined MGS today. Am at 15 caches and counting. Was drawn into geocaching by my daughter-in-law (Nikkole), a Lackey. First find was 12/28/15. Am looking for some magnetic geocaching decals for my car. Any suggestions? Eyor)(49

Welcome Eyor)(49

I saw you had found my cache on Federal Hill the other day. You will find a great and active group here. If you look at the home page there is a list of events in the area for the month and the 2016 MGS Meet the Officers on Feb 06 2016 https://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_d ... e-officers

There are quite a few places to get trackables but here are a few.

11.99 but currently out of stock - http://shop.geocaching.com/default/vehi ... l-bug.html
11.99 - http://www.cacheboxstore.com/products/V ... l-Bug.html
11.95 - https://www.cache-advance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MagTB
9.00 but currently out of stock - http://www.southmountaintraders.com/det ... d=tbmagnet

Enjoy!

Welcome Eyor)(49

Thanks for reaching out! There a lot of regular events in Maryland, and attending events is a great way to get started, as you meet other cachers, get some pointers, and hear about caches you'd like to go after. We host a monthly event in Eldersburg on the third Tuesday of each month, and you are more than welcome to attend. Here's a link to the next one:

http://coord.info/GC68P1P

Additonally, we maintain a website for our local caching group in Carroll County, the Carroll County Caching Fellowship (C3F). There is a tab at the top for "Useful Links" under which (towards the bottom) you'll find a number of vendors of geocaching gear, as well as a variety of other useful tools as you get more involved.

Here's a link to that website:

http://c3f.finditlogitspreadit.info

Hope to see you on the trail or at an event soon!
