Official Augmented Reality caches

Post by PatientRock »

Geocaching.com is trying out something with a "beta" period of sorts, allowing augmented reality geocaches: https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.p ... 7&pgid=921

As a fan of augmented and mixed reality this is very exciting to me! I definitely plan on creating one in the near future, but if you create one in the region, please post about it here. I want to try them all.

Thanks!

Interesting...it doesn't list any potential apps that work on both platforms. Do you know of any? We might consider trying this...

Here you go:

AR apps

To be allowed in Mystery Cache designs, an AR app must

Be available on Android and iPhone (iOS)
Be free to download and create account
Allow users to upload their own AR overlays
Allow location based AR experiences
Example apps that currently fulfill these requirements: HP Reveal (for iOS and Android), Metaverse (for iOS and Android).

Example of an app that currently doesn’t fulfill these requirements: Holo (doesn’t allow users to upload their own AR overlays).

This sounds like so much fun!! I would love to try one myself, but there are none in Maryland yet :( and im not driving 600+ miles to find one...though that may be kind of a fun road trip of sorts....oh well.

I compiled a bookmark list of the ones I have seen publish. Feel free to send me more if you see them.

I'm surprised there haven't been any other finders on PatientRock's cache https://coord.info/GC7R51E. To entice some people to go try it, I dropped a Ducktales trackable in it this morning.
