Why is the interval between the release of CAM in March to the picnic in May so short?
It's more fun that way. :P It used to be a little shorter... but short is a perspective. If you find all the CAM caches in the first week or 2, it seems like a long time to the picnic!

I do think it's more fun to have a 'short' time frame - brings cachers together more, and creates more excitement/challenge in getting it done in time.

Aside from that, there are a couple of practical aspects. With an earlier start you dance with the devil on the weather, particularly in Western MD. Aside from potential snow problems for seekers, it becomes more difficult for hiders and those who do the dry run. The picnic... is traditionally in spring... the later it is, the more likely to run into hot weather and it just gets closer to the summer MGS event.

Mmmmm..... I'm thinking I could come up with a rough "teaser map" based on some publicly available data elsewhere on the Internet - at least when it comes to some of the extremes.
Since this will be my first CAM, I can't even begin to guess :) I have not looked at previous year maps, just so i can keep the mystery for myself. I assume it might be something like the MML, but I have to wait and find out. Being new has it's advantages :)

Oh man, it's statements like that which make me miss doing QoTM.

Ironically, I actually recognize where that was taken from a visit while traveling to do the original MML trail. Unfortunately, that doesn't actually do me any good, but at least I get to feel an iota proud of my memory for being able to scratch that one up from the past. :P

Hi! If I do CAM, is it OK if I bring the whole family and pets to the potluck?

You're certainly welcome to bring your family to the picnic. Pets is harder to answer. In the past, people have brought pets when the park allows it.

Edit to add: Just looked at the event page and the 'Dogs Allowed' attribute is selected, so you should be good to go.

Quick question:

For the Southern Maryland CAM Cache, is this park pet friendly? (My google search was inconclusive.)

That trail is certainly open to our 4 legged friends based on my visit. No implied warranty ;)

When planning for the CAM picnic potluck, should I bring something for:

- Cooler mountainous weather
- Warmer weather with nice ocean breezes
- Something that withstand the gridlock around major cities

FOUND 'EM!!!! found 'em, found 'em, found 'em. Just finished up today (sorry, if this is the wrong thread to post this), but we found them. This is the first time we've tried an organized hunt like this and we had a lot of fun doing it. We're on Geocaching.com as NoParole and we only have 6 or 7 finds, so this was kind of "self establishing" for us. We left a brown cach-koozie in each cach and signed the books as NoParole, Miranda, Peg, and Ron. We're gonna try to make the picnic, but we're not sure yet. We appreciate all the time and effort that the organizers put into this,it's really worth while. And while we normally slow down and try to take some quality pictures, running around like we did didn't give us much opportunity to be picturesque, ha-ha. But, thanks again for the hunts. Please respond if there's anything else we need to do. Thanks.

I've built a Bookmark List of all the published CAM caches - 2004 thru 2012,I'll be updating it with this year's as soon as they are published. Look for it in the LISTS tab in my profile page on "GC.com" or here http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/vie ... b0dc27b52d

I think this question gets asked at every event but I couldn't find the answer for this one so I'll ask... is there electric at the site?

I think I have the correct site identified on the web site and it says electric is available but I thought I'd confirm before we commit to a crock pot.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this was already answered somewhere.

I'll bring a 20' x 4-outlet extension. It'll bring power to the tables.

This might be kind of an odd question but...

Do I need to get permission from someone if I want to put the picture in the upper left hand corner of the forum on a cake?
