Annual MGS Awards Nominations

It’s that time of year again to recognize our fellow cachers with the annual MGS awards. We will be taking nominations now through June 26th and will post the top nominees in each category for member vote. Think about which cache/cacher(s) from the past year who have achieved success in a particular category and submit your nomination to [email protected]. Be sure to put "AWARD" in the subject line.

The cut-off date for the categories are as follows:
Cache: published on or after June 1st, 2014
Logs: written on or after June 1st, 2014
Photos: photos in logs on or after June 1st, 2014
Rookie of the Year: Started caching after January 1st, 2014.

A couple of notes on the eligibility of certain geocaches. 2015 CAM geocaches are not eligible for these Awards. They are voted on separately and an award is given for them at the CAM picnic. CAM bonus hides are eligible for nomination for the yearly awards. Caches placed for the 2014 Wicomico Geocache Bash are not eligible since they were deemed eligible last year. In fact GC51NTF - WGD 2014 - Courtyard won an award last year. Logs and Photos can be from geocaches placed at any time, but the log or photo must have been written or taken from June 1st, 2014 onward.

The Categories are:

Statewide:

Geocacher of The Year - Which Cacher(s) from June of last year until now has been the most dynamic, in your eyes, for geocaching in the state of Maryland?

Geocacher Rookie of The Year - Which Cacher(s) have really jumped on the scene this year and served up notice to all of us that they embody all facets of caching and do it well?

Regional: Indicate area when submitting your nomination.

The state is broken into 4 regions:

Western - Garrett, Allegany, Washington, Frederick.
Central - Montgomery, Carroll, Howard, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Harford.
Southern - Anne Arundel, Prince George's, Calvert, Charles, St, Mary's.
Eastern - Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester,
Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset.

Geocache Hider of the Year - Which Cacher has consistently put out great hides all year and maintained them well?
Western -
Central -
Southern -
Eastern -

Best Cache Hide of the Year - Think about the one cache within the borders of Maryland that either put a big smile on your face or earned your respect.
Western -
Central -
Southern -
Eastern -

Most Scenic Hide of the Year - What new Maryland hide put you in a spot that made you want to stay there for a long time and relax, just enjoying the scenery?
Western -
Central -
Southern -
Eastern -

Cache Log of the Year - What cache log have you read over the past year that really caught your attention, whether it be by detail, thoroughness or just plain humor?
Western -
Central -
Southern -
Eastern -

Cache Log Photo of the Year - What photo attached to a log have you seen over the past year that really caught your eye, whether it is the beauty of the scenery, cleverness of the photo, or the humor.
Western -
Central -
Southern -
Eastern -

When you submit your nomination, please indicate the region. All winners will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the MGS and recognized in front of their peers at the August 9th MGS Summer Picnic.

Finally, this is your way to show your support to geocaches you have found that have come out in the past year. We usually receive very few nomination emails. There is a good chance that your nominations will make the final cut if few nominations are received again. In fact, last year, a couple of categories were combined into one because a lack of nominations for a category. Even if you have not found geocaches throughout the entire state this year, a partial list of nominations is fine and is encouraged. Most nominations we receive are partial lists.

For the log and photo sections do they have to be on caches within Maryland or can it be on a cache that a member of the MGS found while traveling out of the state?

Only one more week to submit nominations. There are still categories that have not received a nomination yet. Even if you only have a couple of nominations, please submit them.

Weren't these to be announced at the Summer Picnic? Sorry I missed it (vacation) but can someone post the winners please? Or point me to where they are posted? Or just email me a list of the winners if that's easiest?
Thanks!
