Tangier Island event

Post by littleblkdog »

I was thinking of a trip either the 8th or 15th of June to Tangier Island ala this event that Nytepyre did back in 2012. Despite being from Maryland, I would depart from Reedville, VA and return the same day (more time on that itinerary than from Crisfield). And of course, time permitting after the event, I would be doing maintenance/finding SSB Tangier Island and the EC there too.

Is anybody else interested? Given the drive time, this little adventure will take about 12 hours from central Maryland.

Definitely would be interested. If I go, I would take care of the maintenance of the SSB cache with supplies from the NPS.

I'd be interested in going. I visited about 10 years ago. It's a different world there.

Definitely interested, and possibly the rest of my family as well, which would mean 4 of us. Need to talk to them about it. This far out, either date looks good for us.

I wouldn't mind organizing another trip to Smith Island as well. I've never been, and I suspect a lot of folks are in the same boat (no pun intended).

Checked my calendar and I already have something planned on June 8th so I would only be able to go on June 15th.

Thanks to everybody for the great response! I have put a calendar reminder on my calendar to make an event for this endeavor. Based on deepdish23's comment, I will probably go for the 15th of June but will reassess at the three month out point which is earliest I can submit for this type of event. Watch this thread and I will post when the event is out.

I too would be interested. I've never been down that way at all. I'll start applying for the Kitchen Pass now.

I'm also interested, and would like to be kept in the loop. I've never been to Tangier or Smith, and would love to see both before they, or their ways of life, disappear.

I'm also interested. Especially because of the new virtual, https://coord.info/GC7B872.

(Due to the distance from home, I'd probably want to stay the night before in suitably close accommodation.)

Hello Sue,

Thank you for pointing out the new virutal! I had heard it mentioned but didn't see it on the island and thought it maybe archived. I appreciate you finding it for me!

I'm definitely 'in'. The 15th works best for me.
