Hart-Miller Island Trip, September 15 and 25, 2023
This is sign-up thread! If you would like to join me, Rdip, or Emily on a trip to Hart-Miller Island on September 15 OR 25 care of Maryland Environmental Service boat shuttle (free), keep reading. Boat leaves at 10 am, estimated return time is 1 pm.
A minimum of 10 people (total) is required and a maximum of 20 is allowed for each trip to happen. Hence I will maintain a numbered list of attendees in the 2nd post of this thread to ensure we are not over or under the required number of people. First in, first "serve".
Reply to this thread if you are IN for sure, or want to be IN but are not sure yet if your schedule will allow it. I know schedules change, hence in case we go over 20, I'll keep a waiting list too in case anyone drops out. Be sure to post here if you have to drop out!
Also, be sure to mention how many people will be with you (if any aside from yourself) and if any are children (Maryland Environmental Service wants to know).
There are 2 EC's and 1 trad on the island. Here's one of the EC's: https://coord.info/GC9DRFE. Rdip and Emily are also planning on hosting a published event on the island to coincide with this trip. Kayaking to the island is an option if the boat is full.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The departure point (landbase) is 2024 Riverview Road, Essex, MD 21221. Drive through the open metal gate and park in the area near the dock. MES recommends arriving 15-30 minutes before the tour begins to leave time to go to the bathroom (there is a porta-potty at landbase) and get on lifejackets. Departure time is 10 am. The boat leaves from landbase and the ride is about 15 minutes long.
Bring a water bottle and lunch, sunscreen and bug spray are recommended. Wearing closed-toed shoes is required (who knows why!?).
Attached is a pdf with more info and MES asks all participants to read it. If there is SEVERE weather on the day, the trip will be canceled, otherwise it is a go rain or shine.

I'm in for the 15th. Saberspark77 still needs to figure out his work schedule, but to be on the safe side count me as 2 for now.

One for GR8Caches (Danny) Please and Thank You! I also need an unknown that day one of five left to fill in my full calendar. All 5 are needed in Sept. I will be traveling through Brunswick to Frederick if anyone is interested in coordinating a ride share.

I’m up for trying out this high-terrain caching thing if there’s still room. (If not, may I hitch my kayak to the shuttle?)

Re: Hart-Miller Island Trip, September 15, 2023
We almost have a full boat! BUT Emilyjen is looking to organize the same trip on Monday, Sept 25 since she can't make it on the 15th. Some may swap to the 25th trip when she confirms that.
