No, you won't be modded after a couple (maybe one) post. And welcome!

Sorry, I must have missed this the other day. We always moderate a new member's first post. After that, their messages should automatically post at submission.DimeCache wrote:Will every one of my posts need to be approved by a Mod or Admin? If so, I'm not sticking around or joining the MGS. Have you all had problems with trolls in the past? I'm a Mod on another forum and we have an intro board where you have to apply. You say a few sentences about yourself and a Mod has to give you permission to the main boards. That has been MORE than enough to discourage trolls.

Re: Welcome to the New Members!
Hello Everyone.
My wife and I just moved to Maryland (from Oregon) last month and are looking to get involved in the Geocaching scene in MD. We live in Silver Spring and look forward to add to our caches in Maryland, DC and Virginia. We find that looking for caches always shows us new and wonderful places to explore.

Hi Mike
You moved to great area for caching!
There are events being held statewide throughout the year, and there is always a first Wednesday event held in Montgomery County by your home in Silver Spring. Come on out and meet some locals.
Also check out the front page for the MGS because we host 6 events throughout the year, and our next event is a CITO on the Eastern Shore on November 1st.

Hello all,
My name is David and I am new to geocaching--well, since July--and I cannot get enough it. I am from Ellicott City, MD and thought there must be some clubs who organize events and what not. Hope to see you all out there.

Re: Welcome to the New Members!
I havent been stopping by for awhile so I wanted to drop in & say hi to all of our new members. Welcome to MGS. You have come to a really great place for caching. We have some awesome CO's that put out some really great caches, of many different kinds. Also there is seldom a month that goes by that there isnt some kind of event going on somewhere in the state. We love to play hard here so there is never a lack of things to do or folks to do something with.
If you ever need anything or have any questions there is always an abundance of input. We also have some great reviewers if you are or thinking of becoming a CO. So jump on in, come on out to some of our events, meet the gang....they ROCK, be safe out there but most of all ENJOY!

Re: Welcome to the New Members!
Hello! I've seen the MGS featured in several Youtube videos and decided it would be good to join! I am relatively new to geocaching, but became very interested in it when I first heard about it a few weeks ago. Right now I am a student at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA but look forward to finding my first caches in Maryland when I return home. Great to meet you all!

Hi leavingmarks! Welcome! There are plenty of geocaching events all around the state. They can all be found on our homepage. GeoWoodstock is coming up in May and our summer picnic will be in August. We hope to see you at an event sometime!

Welcome Leavingmarks and Decreag! We host a monthly meet and greet in Eldersburg on the third Tuesday of each month, we'd love to see you there! There's lots to do in the caching world here in Maryland, please don't hesitate to ask any of us if you have questions!

Hello!
My name is Matt and I am new! I have had my account on Geocaching.com for a bit but am quite inexperienced.
I am starting to get into this, thinking about placing some caches in my town of Emmitsburg and I even have inklings of larger projects that I have no idea how to start.

You've come to the right place -- pull up a chair and get comfortable

Re: Welcome to the New Members!
Hello I'm dhumberson. I've been geocaching now for just about a year in the Cumberland area. Just recently did my 24 caches in 24 hours, as well as found #100. I've gotten heavily into hiding caches lately and have big plans for my 10th hide. If you have found my first cache GC5PAT1 you will understand. I did get Geowoodstock off and can't wait to meet more geocachers in my area. I may end up doing a name change because face it, dhumberson is so hard to write on those nano logs.

Just wanted to say hello to dhumberson. We are also from Cumberland. It seems there are very few Western Maryland cachers on here. We haven't found your playground cache yet but are looking forward to the search. Thanks for hiding caches in our area. Hope to see you on the cache trail sometime. mastercat37

That's awesome mastercat37. I've been hiding several up in the Wellersburg PA as it's literally been mostly untouched but have a few scattered in the Cumberland area. The playground cache is tricky. I'm good friends with Journey374, jercad, and fastangrybird form the area. I hope I get to meet more cachers from the area at geowoodstock. My girlfriend will tag along with me on some and enjoys it. I'm planning a huge, challenging, and long multi for my 10th hide that is proving to be a challenge for me just to think up and create.

Re: Welcome to the New Members!
I just found my first two caches this morning near my partner's place! Laurel is just lousy with caches. I snagged them on the short walk to get donuts. If you haven't found the one at Montpelier Mansion(GC1HPV5) yet, I highly recommend it. The location is gorgeous and fun without being difficult terrain.
I actually live up in Carroll County and can't wait to take my kids on a bike ride to find their first cache. Why has it taken me this long to start this hobby?
I am a maker/hacker type and it's only a matter of time before I make a neat interactive tracker of some kind.
Hopefully the kids and I can make one of the local Eldersburg meetings sometime, but if not we'll see you on the trails!

Welcome to geocaching! There is a very active caching community in Carroll County, on behalf of all of us, as well as the MGS welcome, welcome, welcome! The Carroll County Caching Fellowship (C3F) meets monthly at the Panera in Eldersburg, on the third Tuesday of every month. I wish I'd seen this sooner as we just met last night! At any rate, there are lots of exciting hides here, and a really great group of dedicated cachers, come check us out at:

Look forward to meeting you soon!
