Star-Spangled Geotrail Facts & Passport

Post by Calvertcachers »

The Star-Spangled Banner (SSB) Geotrail will launch February 27, 2010 with over 30 caches within Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia!

A trackable geo coin will be awarded to the first 400 geocachers, while supplies last, for locating at least 20 SSB caches. To be eligible for the coin, geocachers must download a passport from either the SSB Geotrail http://friendsofchesapeakegateways.org/ ... b_geotrail
or Maryland Geocaching Society website. Geocachers must find and log at least 20 SSB finds, record the code word from each cache on their passport and post a picture of yourself at each cache location. After discovering the 20 required caches, geocachers may have their passports validated in person or via mail at the Friends of Chesapeake Gateways office located at 410 Severn Ave, Suite 314, Annapolis, MD 21403. Please refer to the passport for complete validation instructions.

The passport is attached or may be downloaded from the main project website at:
http://friendsofchesapeakegateways.org/ ... b_geotrail

Bookmark list of all SSB caches:

We will post updates to the geotrail, coin inventory and cache status in this locked thread.

For additional information on the history of the Star-Spangled Banner, please visit the National Park Service website http://www.nps.gov/stsp/index.htm

A huge thanks to all of our volunteer cachers for assisting with placing the hides! The SSB Geotrail would not have been possible without your hard work and extra efforts!

The new contact for the SSB is Cindy Chance of the National Park Service. She is located in Annapolis, the same office as Eleanor Mahoney, the previous coordinator. Cindy's information is also located on the passport for the Captain John Smith trail.

According to Cindy today, the SSB still had 100 coins available. I think a previous count I was given was incorrect.

Thanks.
