McKeldin kid friendly?

Post by PatientRock »

For folks who’ve done the CAM cache at McKeldin and are familiar with the constitution of small children, is it ok for a four year old? (please avoid spoilers). A friend is interested in coming with me but he’s got his kid in tow.

Yes with caveats. The trail down to the water has boxed steps which are high for kids. Younger ones will need help negotiating them. You also spend some time along the water’s edge at the bottom of the stairs so keep a close eye on them there. And the trail to the final has some downed trees but isn’t any harder than the stairs. Also on the trail to the final are some spots where the trail is eroded and is basically the edge of a cliff above the river.

If your are patient and keep a close eye on them, it will be a good adventure. Don’t have adventurous kids who aren’t into the experience and it will be miserable but that’s how most things go with kids.
