The last MGS hosted event of the year will be the GC635V1 – Maryland Geocaching Society Holiday Swap 2015.  This fun event will take place at the Arbutus Community Association on Saturday, December 5th beginning at 1:00.  The potluck dinner/lunch will start at 1PM and the Gift Exchange will begin at 2PM.  The rules for the Gift Exchange along with the types of gifts that are brought to the gift exchange can be found on the cache page listing.  I do hope you can attend this event.  For those geocachers that have never attended, many MGS members consider this event the most fun of the whole year.  Who can pass up eating great food and winning geocaching gifts. If you are attending, don’t forget to post which food item you are bringing on the MGS Forum.

I hope you will be able to join us in attending the 2015 Fall Picnic in Frostburg, MD on October 10th beginning at 10:30. Lots of activities have been planned at the Frostburg Recreational Complex including a Poker Run, Corn Hole Tournament, and new geocaches. There is camping available at the park; information can be found here. We will begin setting up at 10AM with the picnic to start at 10:30. In addition the winner of the Create Your Own Pathtag raffle will be announced. The event listing can be found at: GC5ZEDC and the food list can be found here.
Besides the picnic there are others events in the area on that weekend including a Friday evening, GC62TAK, a Saturday evening, GC6306N, and a Sunday morning, GC637FQ event, so there are many opportunities to meet other geocachers. Also, if you are heading home from the picnic on Sunday the 11th, don’t forget to find an earthcache on International EarthCache Day. There are several options for earthcaches on the I-68 corridor.

It is hard to believe that GeoWoodstock is only 5 days away. Besides the Mega event itself, there are many other events surrounding GeoWoodstock starting on Thursday this week and extending all the way until Memorial Day. You can see all the events listed in the event calendar to the right. One in particular I want to bring up is the MGS/NoVAGO CITO being held right after closing ceremonies on Saturday at 6PM at Doubs Woods Park in Hagerstown MD. This is the first time that the MGS and NoVAGO have teemed up for a joint event. We will be cleaning up the south side of the park near the High School. Check out the page here: GC5H15P.
During the GeoWoodstock festivities, the MGS will have a booth in the vendor area. Stop by and say hi. For those that have completed CAM and have not picked up your coin, we will have them there for you. We will also be selling CAM coins from the last 3 years and the MGS 4 seasons pathtags as a set.

I hope everyone had a great time with CAM this year. I want to thank all the hiders who placed caches for CAM this year. You guys are a big reason that CAM is fun and exciting each year. The picnic is only 5 days away.
The schedule for the picnic is as follows:
10:30-11:00 Setup and get grills going
11:00-3:00 – Arrive at picnic, Sign in, Pick up certificate, CAM coin, drop off photo contest entries
Eat, geocache, talk geocaching, have a good time
Get 50/50 tickets, pathtag raffle
12:00 – All photo contest entries must be submitted by 12 noon
3:00-3:30 – Present CAM Hiders Certificates, Award Best CAM Hide, Award Photo Contest & 50/50 winners – Announcements
3:30 – Group photo
There will be several new geocaches that will coincide with the CAM picnic.

Don’t forget to send an email to CAM2015Completion@mdgps.org with the subject “CAM Completion” and containing your geocaching.com name, this information will be used to create the CAM Certificates and also determine how many will be attending the picnic. If you don’t put “CAM Completion” in the title, there is a chance that your email will be overlooked.

Also, please bring any photos you wish to submit to the CAM photo contest. There are five categories: Scenery, People, Animals, Weird, and Photographs taken by children. You may submit one photograph per category.
